As we’ve re-made our conference as a virtual event in 2020/2021, we’ve learned a lot from our fantastic Accessibility Coordinators, and identified steps we need to take to become more inclusive.
This year we have the following accessibility features:
  • Automated captioning is available for all sessions in Terra (Zoom). Unfortunately SpatialChat does not offer it, and recommends the live captioning feature in Chrome.
  • For sessions that include pre-recorded material (Case Studies, Papers, PechaKucha), a captioned video of the pre-recorded portion is also available on each session page, and will be published in our Video Library on epicpeople.org
  • The conference proceedings, including full Papers & Case Studies articles, will be more accessible in both HTML and PDF formats, with additional tagging and alt texts.
  • Transcripts for the pre-recorded Case Studies, Papers, and PechaKucha presentations are available in each session page. Transcripts of thematic sessions, panels, and keynotes will be available after the sessions; please contact accessibility@epicpeople.org. Transcripts are not retained for social and networking sessions.

These features are a step in the right direction, but we know they don’t make all aspects of the conference inclusive. If you encounter any accessibility challenges during the conference, please reach out to the conference Help Desk or to accessibility coordinator (through their profiles or accessibility@epicpeople.org) and we will try to remedy the problem as quickly as possible. We welcome any and all feedback about accessibility, which will be a great help in making this and future conferences more inclusive.
